TEMPE LIGHT RAIL SMART GROWTH
TEMPE LIGHT RAIL SMART GROWTH

Since 1960, Arizona has tripled in population and it continues to grow three times faster than the nation as a whole.  http://www.sprawlwatch.org/arizona.html

Conservation and Smart Growth
Many conservationists regard Pima County as a leading region in efforts to protect natural resources while planning for growth.

The Sustainable Communities Collaborative (SCC) is a unique non-profit partnership working to catalyze development along the Valley Metro light rail in Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa.

Pheonix began to see its future a little differently in 2008, when the city began operating a 29-mile light rail line with 28 stations. To take advantage of this new infrastructure, Phoenix focused the city’s growth and giving its residents with what they wanted: more housing and transportation choices.

Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan, which works to balance development with preserving open space, has been touted as “one of the best and most comprehensive habitat conservation plans in the country.

Partnership for Sustainable Communities, a collaboration between DOT, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development which coordinates federal housing, transportation, water, and other infrastructure investments to make neighborhoods more prosperous, allow people to live closer to jobs, save households time and money and reduce pollution.
